CRANIOSACRAL |
| Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on
technique discovered and developed by an American Osteopathic Physician,
William Sutherland in early 1900's.. It's a form of manipulation to the body's
craniosacral system. The basic concept is that there is a continuous subtle
movement of cranial bones resulting in a rhythm. It is postulated that the
rhythm is in response to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fluctuations. There is also
a subtle movement of the whole body in response to the fluid pressure changes
around the central nervous system. This therapy can help correct any imbalances
or dysfunctions within that system. |
By using the hands as fine discriminating tools, it is possible to
detect disturbances in the rhythm which will identify areas of dysfunction. The
whole body turns out and in and each of the cranial bones moves in a specific
manner. This allows cranial lesions and other soft tissue restrictions to be
detected by noting constraints and distortions of these movements. Treatment is
aimed at the restoration of full cranial motion and the release of abnormal
myofascial restrictions and tensions in the body.
Craniosacral Therapy is becoming a treatment of choice
in the pain, rehabilitation and neural field, as a remarkable effective tool.
It has proven to be beneficial for the treatment of birth and other traumas. By
complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is a preventative
health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease. It is
effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and
dysfunction, including: Migraine headaches, tinnitus, chronic neck and back
pain, scoliosis, chronic fatigue, emotional difficulties, stress & tension
related problems, Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ), Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder, learning disabilities, A.D.D., A.D.H.D., gross and fine motor
problems, developmental delays, autism, and many other pain and neurological
conditions have benefited from CST.
Some people experienced during a session of CST a powerful, life
changing event; some people experienced a gentle reversal of body issues-barely
noticeable at the time of therapy, but changes have occurred nonetheless; some
people will have emotional reactions and some will feel only a gentle wave of
clearing. Each person's perception is different, as different as the issues
that they bring to the table. |
